COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is a federal law that allows you to temporarily continue your employer-sponsored health insurance after losing your job or experiencing other qualifying life events. COBRA coverage typically lasts 18 to 36 months, but you must pay the full premium yourself plus a 2% administrative fee, which can be significantly more expensive than what you paid as an employee.
