Liability Coverage

Definition

Liability coverage is the portion of an insurance policy that pays for bodily injury and property damage you cause to others. In auto insurance, liability coverage is legally required in nearly every state and has two components: bodily injury per person/per accident and property damage. In homeowners insurance, liability coverage protects you if someone is injured on your property or if you accidentally damage someone else's property.
