Definition

Hours worked beyond the standard 40-hour workweek for non-exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Federal law requires employers to pay at least 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for overtime hours. Some states have additional overtime rules, such as daily overtime thresholds.
